NYFW SS20 Trends & Experience

September 16, 2019

Leather Longline Shorts & Tank Double Sweater – Pixie Market | The Pouch 20 – Bottega Veneta | Flip Flop Sandal – Bevza |

Well it’s that time again, recap of my trip to NYFW for SS20. My first Fashion Week trip was back in 2016 so it’s crazy to think how many seasons I’ve already gone through. I was expecting this season to be it’s biggest and most busy but really things were spread out just enough for me to have the perfect amount of time to jump from one event to another. Not to mention I stayed down at the Arlo Soho (which I normally only stay at during February) which made things a whole lot easier. It’s a super central location and it’s pretty much in walking distance to everything.

It’s really surreal to see the progression of these trips. I took a trip down memory lane on my old recap posts and it’s really been a journey into finding myself and my style as the years progress. I think this season felt especially important to me seeing as it was the first year I wasn’t working full time along with going on the trip. Technically I wasn’t working back in February when I went but I think with September being the main season I had some expectations for myself to bring it.

I know there is going to be way too much to include into one singular post but I really was inspired by what I saw for Spring/Summer 2020 and wanted to share my SS20 trends and experiences with you! Plus a little recap of some of my looks.

Garter Belts

It’s no question that this was the season for accessories and one of the hot ones I came across in multiple shows was the Garter Belt. We all know that Loewe’s peplum belt made a huge splash when it came out but I’m seeing a ton of variations of the garter belt that has me super excited for spring/summer. It’s funny because it brings me back maybe 6 years or so when I used to wear garter belts under my shorts with long stockings. Things have gotten a lot more classy since then. A few of my favorites were Sandy Liang and Dion Lee who created their versions in different ways. Sandy’s garters gave off a more layered and fun appeal while Dion’s added classy sex appeal to structured silhouettes.

Sheer & Silky Statements

Sheer pieces aren’t anything new to any trend report but this season brought out a ton of new takes on it. From large accentuated sleeves, to opaque prints, to structured jackets and trousers designers have taken sheer pieces to the next level. One of the stand outs for these included Marc Jacobs, Sies Marjan and Noon by Noor.

Draping & Fringe

There were a lot of 70s inspired pieces to me this season, from sexy fall off the shoulders silhouettes to perfectly placed draping to elongated skirt fringe sweeping the runways. Some of my favorite pieces came from Proenza Schouler and of course my absolute favorite, Bevza.

Layering Prints

It’s no secret that layering prints is the best way to create a stand out look but more and more designers have been incorporating them into their collections. Creating dissonance with prints and textures yet harmony by combining particular color combinations. Some of my favorites this season were Claudia Li and Collina Strada who not only combined theses prints as separate pieces but even included print mixtures in their individual pieces.
